Babsi Schett did not play aggressively
against Chanda Rubin.
The Tyrolean on Tuesday lost in the $565,000 Porsche Grand Prix to her
US friend Chanda Rubin 2-6 5-7.
Schett led the second set 5-2 and had was leading 5:4 with a set-point
but after 72 minutes her opponent had the victory in the bag. Schett is still
committed in Filderstadt in the doubles competition with Kim Clijsters
of Belgium.
Schett had problems on the fast surface against an aggressive opponent right
from the beginning. The first set was decided after two breaks and it took 20
minutes, however then Schett started to play more aggressively.
The outcome was 2-0 lead at the beginning
of the second set and after a re-break Schett again went 5-2 up.
However with another mistake she got broken at 4-5, and lost a set-point in
the tenth game and the aggressiveness has gone.
'For me, it was difficult on this fast surface, I did not play right, Schett
admitted. She often came too late to the ball and was too short with her
strokes.
'The surface was relatively slow in Moscow and Chanda played so aggressively
from the beginning. Moreover my game has not worked the way I wish'
Schett explained.
She will probably not qualify for the year-end championships in Munich.
The Tyrolean will still play in Zurich and Linz, and hopes on a
start-place at the year-end championships in Munich with Seles not playing and
the possibility that other American players will not play there.
