Vienna 2001

Barbara Schett won in the first round of the 170,000 UNIQA Grand Prix in the Viennese Prater. The Tyrolean beat the 21 year old Dane Eva Dyrberg 6-4 6-3.

Schett's original opponent, Joanette Kruger from South Africa pulled out because of an illness, so Dyrberg replaced her as a lucky loser.

Schett had some difficulties at the beginning, to get used to the surface and the opponent, then the 25 year-old found her  game and managed to break at 4:3.   Schett got her first match point after 1 and a quarter hours.

In the second round, the Tyrolean meets Eva Bes, the #107 in the world rankings. Schett says 'She is a typical Spaniard, defensive tennis. But she also belongs into the category of those players, that I must beat, certainly.
